I have also heard mindfulness meditation described as imagining you are sitting in front of a river and our thoughts are sticks floating down the river. Some thoughts will be bigger and some smaller. Some thoughts will float by quickly and others lumber in front of you. Mindfulness meditation is simply noticing the floating sticks but never reaching into the river to pick up one of the sticks.
